EXCITATION CONTROL / GENERATOR
Ex2100e is an excitation control platform for new and retrofit gas, steam and hydro generator applications. It acquires generator electrical measurements, performs automatic voltage regulation, limiting and protection, and controls the power conversion stage that supplies regulated DC to the rotor field circuit.

By regulating generator field current, the excitation system influences terminal voltage, reactive power and power factor while coordinating with synchronizing, generator protection, turbine control and static starting systems. Retrofit scope requires review of the installed excitation method, power bridges, redundancy, I/O, PPT and power supplies, and field interfaces.

SYSTEM CONTEXT
Voltage, current, frequency and operating-state inputs provide feedback for regulation, limiting and protection algorithms.
Automatic and manual regulation, PSS, limiters and protection functions execute on the digital control platform.
IGBT regulators or thyristor static excitation bridges convert the input supply into controlled excitation output.
Controlled DC acts on the rotating exciter or generator rotor field to establish the required terminal voltage and reactive operating state.
Status, commands, alarms and diagnostics are exchanged with Mark VIe, synchronizing, protection, HMI and historian systems.
TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE
Ex2100e supports new and retrofit excitation systems for gas, steam and hydro generators.
Automatic voltage regulators may serve lower field-current applications, while higher-current applications may use thyristor static excitation systems.
Systems may use simplex or redundant controls with warm-standby, N-1 or N-2 power bridge arrangements selected for capacity and availability requirements.
The ControlST suite includes ToolboxST, WorkstationST and CIMPLICITY for configuration, diagnostics, HMI and historian functions.
Integration with Mark VIe, Ls2100e, DCS and HMI can reduce additional gateways; standalone retrofits can also use Modbus/TCP or hardwired interfaces.
A DFE path may retain suitable installed power conversion equipment after engineering review, reducing retrofit scope and outage impact.
